Beautiful Creatures' release date was originally scheduled to be on 13 February 2013, but distributor Warner Bros. later pushed the date to Thursday, 24 February 2013.
Beautiful Creatures will have you wishing there was a fifth book in the series. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history, and their town. Just like many other myths in Greek mythology, this one involves Athena! Arachne started as a weaver and crafty woman – beautiful if you are to believe the tales. One day, she disagreed with Athena and challenged her, which resulted in Athena turning her into a spider. Plenty of mystery surrounds this mythical creature, known for telling an impossible riddle and killing whoever was unable to answer correctly, but the Sphinx is also known for its beauty!

In Gatlin, South Carolina, teenager Ethan Wate awakens from a recurring dream of a girl he has not met. He despairs of his small-town existence and dreams of leaving for college. His first day of junior year, a newcomer Lena Duchannes resembles the girl Ethan has been dreaming about. Other students gossip about Lena's reclusive uncle, Macon Ravenwood, suggesting her family are devil worshippers. Beautiful Creatures is an adaptation of the young adult novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, itself the first installment in a series called the Caster Chronicles. Before you’re thinking, oh no, it’s another Twilight… well, yes, it’s another Twilight.
When a battle is held in Norse mythology, Valkyrie is the one who decides who lives and who dies. If the decision is made to have a warrior die, Valkyrie takes them with her to Odin’s afterlife hall, where they get to live out their days. Undines are also known as Ondines, and they are small and pretty water nymphs. If a man falls in love with them, the Undines become human, but they only get to live for as long as the man remains faithful. A vibrantly colored phoenix is commonly found in old stories, and they are known for “rising from the ashes” so to speak, where they die only to regenerate and come back to life.

Beyond Beautiful Creatures, the Caster Chronicles series spawned three further books and a spinoff series too. The problem might not be that these fine actors are doing terrible job, but that we as an audience realize it because they don’t seem really interested in what they’re doing. A lot must have to do with the fact that the romantic plot never really hooks us. We never really care if Lena and Ethan make it, because they are such dull characters that we wonder if they’re even alive to begin with.
It was released in the United States on February 14, 2013, by Warner Bros. It received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $60.1 million worldwide against its $60 million budget, making it a box office bomb. While the original film has its own fans the odds of Beautiful Creatures 2 coming together now are close to zero. The first film was a flop and the lead actors are too old to convincingly play teenagers, as Ethan and Lena still are in Beautiful Darkness. The YA movie bubble has long since burst too, so even if the first movie has a cult following, there's simply not enough interest in a Beautiful Creatures 2. Maybe the Caster Chronicles will receive a movie or TV reboot in the future, but for now, the franchise is dormant.

Overall, Beautiful Creatures isn’t a recommended movie by any means and the fact that Irons, Davis and Thompson are working in movies of this sort makes one wish spells could be cast over the film industry to fix it. Macon, disapproving of their relationship, conspires with Ethan's family friend, Amma, to separate them. Lena tells Ethan that she and her family are "casters" capable of performing spells. On her sixteenth birthday, her true nature will reveal itself toward either the light or dark. Despite being based on a successful novel and featuring a talented cast, Beautiful Creatures was a financial disappointment upon release in 2013, and just about covered its production budget. Critics felt the movie was dull and the central romance was a little too sappy, while followers of the book series hated many of the changes it made.

The very old tale of Carmilla is that of a vampire who prays mostly on women at night. Her stories date back even further than those of Dracula, and the interesting part is that she is female, unlike most other famous vampires. Jewish folklore speaks of Lilith – a demonic creature that presents a threat to women and children, and that is active mostly at night. She may have been beautiful to look at, but there is nothing about her personality or actions that could be described as good.
This book is written from the point of view of Ethan, who’s had a pretty tough life so far. He’s only a sophomore in high school and has been through so much already. He begins having these strange dreams involving a girl he doesn’t even know. If that’s not weird enough, the girl, named Lena, suddenly moves to his town. She and her family are known as Casters- people with supernatural powers. But in just six months ago on Lena’s sixteenth birthday, she will be in terrible danger.
Little do they know that in fact they’re half right, because while other girls her age are dealing with regular issues, Lena has to face the fact that upon turning 16 she will either become a good or bad witch, or “caster”. The Beautiful Creatures series will keep you in constant suspense and surprise. Each book has the amazing ability to be completely unique from the others, yet their plots tie in to the original plot. Beautiful Creatures is not your typical supernatural-fantasy-romance book. If you’re looking for a boring romance novel that you can put down after a few minutes, these books are not the option.
As of 21 April 2013, the film has grossed a worldwide total of $60,052,138, making it a financial loss as it failed to recoup its production budget and other costs, as generally speaking, half of ticket sales go to theaters. Variety magazine listed Beautiful Creatures as one of "Hollywood's biggest box office bombs of 2013". Alcon Entertainment purchased the rights to Beautiful Creatures in 2009, with director Richard LaGravenese signing on soon after to write and direct the movie.
